About Santa Fe: Culture

Santa Fe Culture

Santa Fe…”The City of the Holy Faith”

Laid out in the protective foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, with an old west charm and friendly relaxed atmosphere, this peaceful historic city boasts of it’s tri-cultural mixture of Indians, Hispanics and Anglos.  Founded in 1610 by Governor Don Pedro de Peralta, Santa Fe is the oldest State Capitol in the United States.  Peralta had orders from the throne of Spain to bring “Santa Fe”, the Holy Faith to the Indian population.

For those of us who live here, it is a daily mixture of cultures-Spanish, Indian, Anglo.  It is the architecture, the old brick buildings, and the adobe structures.  It is the landscape, the beautiful mountains, beautiful blue skies and the sunsets.  It is the celebrations of the Santa Fe Fiesta, The Santa Fe Opera, and The Santa Fe Indian Market. It is the people.
